Prayagraj: The UP Board has withheld the results of several Class X and Class XII students following reports of suspected unfair means during the 2026 examinations. The move comes after multiple evaluation centres across districts flagged irregularities in answer sheets, raising concerns over possible copying or organised malpractice.UP Board secretary Bhagwati Singh has directed that such answer sheets be sent from evaluation centres to regional offices and subsequently to the board headquarters for further examination. The results of candidates linked to these answer sheets have been put on hold until a final decision is taken, he added.A suspected case of answer booklet tampering in the UP Board exams had emerged during the evaluation of Chemistry papers linked to Pt Anant Ram Pandey Inter College in Karchhana, Prayagraj. Evaluators found that 42 out of 286 copies had mismatched handwriting between the main ‘A’ booklet and supplementary ‘B’ sheets, raising suspicion that parts were written outside the exam hall. Inconsistent invigilator signatures further deepened doubts.The board had earlier issued strict instructions to district inspectors of schools (DIOS), evaluation centre in-charges, deputy head examiners, and examiners to maintain fairness during the evaluation process. Examiners were specifically asked to identify and segregate answer sheets showing anomalies that could indicate copying.Around 1,000 such answer sheets have reportedly been sent to the objection section of regional offices along with detailed remarks by examiners explaining the discrepancies observed. These cases will now be reviewed by a specially constituted grievance redressal committee at the board headquarters.As part of the process, the students concerned will be called for a hearing. In cases involving handwriting mismatch, candidates may be asked to write samples to verify authenticity. Based on the committee’s findings, a decision will be taken on whether to release or cancel the results.Officials indicated that if multiple answer sheets from a particular centre are found to have identical content or signs of manipulation, it may be treated as a case of mass copying. In such situations, strict action will also be initiated against the concerned school or examination centre.Correction window for student details open till May 6The UP Board has provided an opportunity to students who appeared in the 2026 high school and intermediate examinations to apply for corrections in their academic details before mark sheets and certificates are issued. Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh has invited applications till May 6.In case of errors in details such as student’s name, parents’ names, date of birth, or photograph, school principals can submit correction requests through the official website upmsp.edu.in. The board has warned that if corrections are not applied for within the stipulated period and discrepancies are raised after issuance of certificates, necessary action will be taken against the authorities concerned.
