Patna: With the publication of Class XII results by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Monday, institutions of higher education in Bihar have speeded up the process of admitting students to undergraduate courses for the academic session 2026-27. While some universities have already announced the admission schedule, others are likely to follow suit soon.Patna University (PU) and Patliputra University (PPU) are likely to invite online applications for admission to the four-year degree courses in arts, science and commerce streams in the first week of April. Admission in both universities will be conducted through the Samarth e-governance portal this year.PU dean of students’ welfare Yogendra Kumar Verma said as per the govt’s instructions issued last year, the university is preparing to conduct all its work online through the e-Samarth portal from this year. Hence, all admissions in the 2026-27 session will be formalised through this portal. The university authorities are in regular contact with the persons looking after this portal so that the process of admission can begin at the earliest.He added that all admissions to undergraduate courses in accordance with reservation regulations would be completed by the end of June so that classes of newly admitted students may start in the first week of July.PPU registrar Abu Bakar Rizwi also said undergraduate admissions in all the colleges under this university would commence in the first week of April through the e-Samarth portal. The university is hopeful of implementing this portal very soon in the larger interest of students.In most state universities, admission to general undergraduate courses is made on the basis of marks obtained in Class XII examinations of different boards. Earlier, only PU used to hold a centralised entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in its colleges, but that practice was scrapped after the Covid-19 pandemic.However, some universities do conduct entrance tests to admit students to their self-financing (vocational) courses.Only five of 23 universities, including two central, 14 state and seven private universities in Bihar, have so far volunteered to participate in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate courses.
