Bokaro: What was meant to be a routine inauguration of an election office became a a costly affair for a mayoral candidate in Chas Municipal Corporation, with the expenses related to a Union minister’s visit now being added to the candidate’s election expenditure.As per the information released on Tuesday by Bokaro PRD cell, “A contestant for the post of mayor in the Chas Municipal Corporation had inaugurated his election office at Bhagwati Colony, Chas. The programme was attended by Union minister of state for home affairs Sanjay Seth.”
Election authorities have clarified that all expenses incurred during the minister’s arrival in Chas, participation in the programme and subsequent return will be accounted for as part of the candidate’s official election expenditure, in accordance with election rules.Following directions of the district election officer (municipal), the returning officer, Chas Municipal Corporation-cum-sub divisional officer (SDO) Chas, Pranjal Dhanda, has formally submitted a detailed report to the expenditure observer appointed by the State Election Commission.
