Patna: An undertrial prisoner, lodged in Chanawe Mandal Jail, died on way to Sadar hospital in Gopalganj district on Monday after his health suddenly deteriorated. The deceased was identified as Darshan Kumar (28), son of Thakur Sah, a resident of Rampur Mukund village in the Bihambharpur police station area. He was arrested on Feb 12 on charge of smuggling liquor and involved in an accident in which his SUV collided with a stationary truck, injuring him severely.The police handed over his body to his family after a post-mortem. His family alleged negligence by the jail administration and demanded a fair investigation and justice. Excise superintendent Amritesh Kumar said a total of 70 cartons of liquor were recovered from the SUV at the accident site. Injured Darshan was admitted to the emergency ward of Model Hospital for treatment. After medical care, he was sent to Chanave Mandal Jail.According to the jail administration, “Darshan suddenly experienced severe chest pain in jail on Monday. He was immediately sent to Model Hospital for treatment, but he died on the way to the hospital.”
