Berhampur: A 29-year-old undertrial, identified as Sunil Swain alias Shantanu Kumar Patra of Baleswar, hung himself to death in Berhampur circle jail on Tuesday. A resident of Manikpur in Ganjam district’s Badagada police station limits, Sunil was lodged in jail on Aug 19 last year after being arrested by police in a murder case in Purushottampur police station area.D N Barik, senior superintendent of the circle jail, said around 1.15 pm, he went to the latrine. As he did not return after some hours, jail staff checked on him. They found him hanging from the beam by his towel.Barik said they had intimated family members of the deceased. Post-mortem would be conducted after his family members arrived.
