Varanasi: A 24-year-old undertrial prisoner lodged in the Azamgarh district jail died during treatment at the district hospital on Thursday night, days after being admitted with alleged alcohol withdrawal-related complications, officials said.The deceased was identified as Vikram, a resident of Khatik Tola in Dohrighat area of Mau district.Jail superintendent Satya Prakash said Vikram had been lodged in the district jail on July 13 in connection with a case registered in Azamgarh under Sections 3/17 and 7/25 of the relevant Act.According to jail authorities, Vikram was suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms. After his condition deteriorated and he developed delirium, he was shifted to the district hospital on July 16 for treatment.He died during treatment at around 8.30 pm on Thursday.Jail officials said the inquest and post-mortem examination have been completed, and further legal proceedings are underway.
