An undertrial prisoner lodged in Faridabad jail died under suspicious circumstances, with his family raising questions over the circumstances surrounding his death and alleging that they were not given clear and complete information by the jail administration.

Gurgaon: A 35-year-old undertrial prisoner lodged in Neemka jail died after his health deteriorated, with his family questioning the circumstances surrounding his death and alleging that they were not given adequate information by the jail authorities.Pawan had been lodged in the jail for the past three to four months. His family said they were informed by police that his health had deteriorated and that he had been taken to BK Hospital. However, they said they were not given clear details about when his condition worsened or when he was taken to the hospital.A family member, Monu, said Pawan’s mother had visited him two days before his death and found him in normal health. “He was talking normally and did not mention any health problem. Everything seemed fine. We want a fair and impartial investigation into his death. If anyone is found responsible for any wrongdoing, strict action should be taken,” he said.The family has sought details of Pawan’s health condition inside the jail, including whether he had complained of any illness, when his condition deteriorated and what medical treatment was provided. They have also sought an inquiry into the circumstances inside the jail before his death and any possible lapse by the jail administration.Police and jail authorities are investigating the matter. The exact cause of death will be established after the postmortem examination.A police officer said the preliminary inquiry indicated that Pawan died of a heart attack. “The matter will be investigated as per legal procedure. The inquiry indicates that he died of a heart attack. Further investigation is underway,” the officer said.
