MANDYA: A surprise inspection at MIMS Hospital by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) and Mandya District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Monday uncovered alleged violations in the treatment and custody arrangements of an undertrial accused.The inspection was carried out by KSLSA member secretary Shashidhara Shetty, Mandya District Sessions Judge and DLSA president Chandrashekara C, KSLSA member Dr Mohan Rao Nalwade and DLSA member secretary Anand M.During the inspection, the team found Mahamad Hussain, an ADLR survey supervisor currently in judicial custody, undergoing treatment in a separate room at MIMS Hospital since August 21 without court permission, according to a release issued by the information department. A woman was also found in the room with him.MIMS superintendent Dr Shivakumar reportedly told the inspection team that Hussain was not suffering from any serious medical condition. However, the jail superintendent said Hussain had been admitted to the hospital on the recommendation of the prison medical officer.The inspection team directed the jail superintendent that, henceforth, an accused or undertrial should be shifted to hospital only after obtaining permission from the court. It also instructed the jail superintendent, police officials and MIMS authorities to submit a detailed report on the matter.Further legal action will be considered after the report is examined, the release said.Hussain was arrested by Lokayukta police on July 2 on charges including impersonation, manipulation of official records and allegedly creating forged government documents, officials said.
