Jaipur: The Public Works Department (PWD) will develop an underground parking facility beneath the garden inside the state Secretariat to ease traffic congestion on Bhagwan Das Marg and improve parking capacity within the complex. The department has issued the work order and fixed a deadline of Sept 2026 for completion. “We have already issued the work order. Following instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) and PWD Minister Diya Kumari, the work will take place at a rapid pace. We have set a deadline of Sept 2026 for this project,” a senior PWD official said. The project, with a budget of Rs 5.42 crore, is based on a third-party physical audit report and aims to permanently address persistent water leakage in the existing two-storey basement parking below the front lawn. “Besides increasing the capacity of parking inside the secretariat, it will resolve the long-standing problem of water leakage in this parking lot, which has a capacity of 550 four-wheelers. Due to the age of previous construction, water leakage from expansion joints is causing the iron rods in beams, columns and pillars to rust, weakening the cement and concrete joints,” a PWD engineer said. After completion, the renovated facility will accommodate 450 four-wheelers. Additionally, a three-storey underground parking structure under construction below the North Block will provide space for 268 vehicles and is expected to be ready by June 2026.
