Agartala: In a sudden move, Tripura Lokayukta and former judicial officer B K Kilikdar resigned just two years after assuming office.He tendered his resignation to governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu three days ago, citing health issues. Reports indicate the governor promptly accepted his resignation and instructed Tripura govt to find a replacement. Kilikdar served as the fourth Lokayukta of the state, having taken office on Aug 16, 2024.Left Front govt appointed the first Lokayukta in Dec 2012, prior to implementing Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013, which required states to establish this anti-corruption body.Reports suggest both the state govt and the governor expressed significant dissatisfaction with the Lokayukta over alleged targeted actions against certain govt employees. The Lokayukta had recently issued a notice to a senior bureaucrat regarding actions taken 15 years ago during his role as education director.Although the matter was referred to education department for a response, the Lokayukta asked the officer to appear personally before him, escalating tensions.The issue was raised with both the chief minister and the governor, angering them. Reports said activities of heads of a few other commissions have also provoked discontent in govt, besides the Lokayukta.
