Rohtak: Patients at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, are facing delays in getting ultrasound tests, with non-operational machines and a shortage of doctors affecting the facility.Several patients and attendants alleged they had been making repeated visits for up to 10 days without even getting an ultrasound slip. Some said they had to reach the hospital as early as 4 am to secure a place in the queue. The issue has also prompted patients to approach the offices of the PGIMS director and medical superintendent seeking intervention.PGIMS director Dr S K Singhal said, “We have machines, but not enough doctors to operate them.”Sandeep, who has been accompanying his mother for an ultrasound, said he had been visiting PGIMS for nearly 10 days but was yet to get a slip. Mohan Lal, who travelled from the Mahendragarh region, also said he had been making repeated trips for around 10 days.“I have to travel such a long distance and spend money on transportation, but despite that, my ultrasound is still not being done,” he said.Shanti, who has been travelling from Delhi with her husband, said they had been visiting the institute for nearly a week as he had a serious leg-related problem.“We have been coming repeatedly, but the ultrasound is still not being done,” she said.The patients claimed PGIMS has five ultrasound machines, of which only one is currently functional. They also alleged that some available slots are used for staff-related cases, reducing availability for general patients.PGIMS public relations department in-charge Dr Manjunath B C said the radiology department conducted more than 200 tests a day and recruitment of additional staff was underway.He said recruitment was being carried out against vacancies arising from retirements in different departments and that new staff would be appointed soon.
