KALYAN: The CCTV footage examined by the police has indicated that the fatal road accident involving Avinash Mutha, the son of a prominent Ulhasnagar builder and BJP leader, was an accident and not an intentional act, as was initially alleged by some local residents. The accident, which occurred in Ulhasnagar on Monday, claimed the life of 51-year-old Devendrasingh Rajput, while his son sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Central Hospital.According to the police, the CCTV footage shows Rajput was riding his two-wheeler when he suddenly lost balance and fell onto the road. Investigators said Rajput then came in front of Mutha’s electric car, which was travelling in its own lane, leaving the driver with little time to avoid the collision.Rajput sustained critical injuries in the crash and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.Soon after the accident, some local residents alleged that the car driver had reversed the vehicle and deliberately run over the victim before fleeing the spot. However, police said the CCTV footage does not support these claims and indicates that the collision occurred after the two-wheeler rider fell while they were suspecting attempting to overtake or avoid collision of some other vehicle and the probe about the same is going on.Following the accident, Mutha drove to the Mahatma Phule Police Station in Kalyan and surrendered before the police. During questioning, he told investigators that a man had suddenly come in front of his vehicle, resulting in the fatal accident.Police detained Mutha for several hours as part of the investigation and scrutinised CCTV footage from the area. Based on the preliminary findings, investigators said the footage shows Mutha was driving within his lane and that the victim unexpectedly fell into the path of the vehicle. The further probe in the case is going on.
