Nagpur: Several advanced construction technologies, including Ultra-High Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) and monopile foundations, were used to construct the Indora-Dighori flyover and overcome severe space constraints, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said at the project’s inauguration on Saturday.“UHPFRC technology enabled engineers to construct longer spans with fewer supporting pillars. A team comprising IIT faculty, NHAI officials and private engineers studied the technology in Malaysia before it was introduced in India and subsequently approved by the Indian Roads Congress (IRC),” he said.A special casting yard was established at Butibori to manufacture the UHPFRC segments. Nearly 3km of the 9km elevated corridor has been constructed using the technology, Gadkari said.He said monopile technology was adopted at 165 locations where conventional foundations were difficult because of limited space along the alignment.Recalling the project’s initial proposal, Gadkari said he had felt that constructing a flyover along the existing road would be difficult because of the severe space constraints. However, Vikas Kumbhare, Mohan Mate, Pravin Datke and Dayashankar Tiwari pushed for the project.Gadkari said the Indora-Dighori distance was covered in just nine minutes during a trial run.He said the remaining underpass-related works would be completed within the next six to seven months and appealed to citizens to ensure that decorations and other material installed along the flyover did not damage the infrastructure.Gadkari also announced that an international-level sports complex would be developed on around 90 acres near Symbiosis in Nagpur. A private player is expected to invest around Rs500 crore in the project, he said.
