Patiala: A two-day international seminar organised by the Shaheed Udham Singh Chair of Punjabi University, in collaboration with ICSSR-NWRC, Panjab University, Chandigarh, concluded successfully in Patiala on Wednseday.The valedictory session was presided over by vice-chancellor Jagdeep Singh. In his presidential address, Jagdeep Singh emphasised that the core objective of University ‘Chairs’ was to encourage and promote research that brought neglected historical facts to the forefront. He said such international seminars played a vital role in creating awareness among students and helping them reconnect with their roots.Prof Mohammad Idris, in-charge, Shaheed Udham Singh Chair, delivered the welcome address and presented a comprehensive report on the two-day event. He informed the audience that a total of 20 research papers were presented during the seminar. Earlier in the day, the first session of the second day commenced with Prof Ajita, Director, IAS and Allied Services Training Centre, attending as the guest of honour.The subsequent academic session was chaired by Prof B K Shivram, dean of studies and head of the history department, Himachal Pradesh University, who discussed the contemporary relevance of Shaheed Udham Singh’s ideology in detail.
