Police intervened and detained several protesters to restore normal traffic movement. Those detained included Shiv Sena (UBT) deputy leader Vijay Salvi, district president Alpesh Bhoir, city president Bala Parab and several party workers. They were later taken into preventive custody. Before being detained, Salvi alleged that the police action at Jantar Mantar was unjustified and said the students’ demands deserved a fair hearing. He demanded Pradhan’s resignation over the paper leak issue and also called on Union home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept moral responsibility for the alleged assault on students during the protest and step down from their posts.
