Students who fail in the second Pre-University (II PU) examination or wish to improve their marks will now get only a two-year window to reappear for the exams. The Education Department has issued a new order stating that candidates can attempt improvement exams only in the year they register and the following academic year.
Under the revised rule, students who appear for the three annual exam opportunities in a particular year must complete any attempt to improve marks or results within the next year’s three annual exam cycles. After the two-year period, no further opportunity will be provided.
The rule will come into effect from the current academic year and will apply to regular, private and repeat students. Earlier, students were allowed up to six attempts to improve their results without any time limit.
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board said the change was introduced to address technical difficulties in managing long-term student records and the additional workload of printing and replacing mark cards whenever candidates improved their results.
