SALEM: Two female contract employees of an Aavin dairy farm died after falling under the rear wheels of a truck from a two-wheeler near Tharamangalam in Salem district on Monday evening.The deceased have been identified as S Chamundeeswari, 36, of Kattampatti near Jalakandapuram and R Chitra, 30, of Vennanampatti. They were employed as contract workers at the Aavin dairy farm in Kollapatty. The accident happened while they were riding on a two-wheeler towards Tharamangalam after their work hours. Chamundeeswari attempted to overtake a brick-laden truck near Park Nagar in Tharamangalam. “Seeing a car approaching from the opposite direction, Chamundeeswari applied the brake suddenly, causing the two-wheeler to skid. Both fell on the road and came under the rear wheels of the truck. Both women sustained head injuries and died on the spot,” said an officer at the Tharamangalam police station.Police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Omalur Government Hospital for postmortem. A case was registered, and efforts were under way to trace the truck driver who fled the accident spot.Chamundeeswari was a widow with two school-going sons. Chitra is survived by her husband Rajendran.
