New Delhi: Two 18-year-old women drowned in north Delhi’s Wazirabad Friday morning while visiting Sur Ghat with their families for a ritual bath, police said.The incident took place around 9 am, following which a call was made to Delhi Fire Services. A fire tender arrived, and divers went out searching for them.The women were found and taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead.Police said the victims’ parents were labourers and had travelled to the ghat from their home in Zakhira along with their families. When the girls entered the water, they took a few steps forward, lost their balance and got swept away with the current.Based on the initial findings, officers said the deaths appeared to have been caused by accidental drowning. No foul play has been suspected so far.Police said further investigation is underway to establish the exact sequence of events leading to the accident and to record statements of family members and other witnesses who were present at the ghat.In July, four people allegedly drowned while bathing in Yamuna near Yamuna Khadar in east Delhi’s Geeta Colony. In the same month, four Class X students drowned while bathing in Yamuna near Hiranki village in outer north Delhi.
