Amravati: Two minor sisters drowned in Sapan river, as one attempted to save the other in Diya village, in Dharni tehsil. The deceased, Aastha (9) and Aradhana Giri (14), residents of Diya village, lost their lives in the accident, which occurred around 11.30am. The sisters had gone to the river with friends, and Aastha got swept away while bathing. Aradhana jumped in to rescue her, but both were overcome by the strong water flow, police said. Despite efforts by villagers and authorities, the girls couldn’t be saved. The incident has left the village and Melghat region in shock, with an accidental death case registered by Dharni police. The tragic loss has left the entire village of Diya and the broader Melghat region in deep shock and mourning.
