Nagpur: Two senior citizens trapped inside a smoke-filled apartment after an air-conditioner caught fire were rescued by Dhantoli police personnel on Tuesday afternoon.The incident occurred at Nehazet Apartment, located behind NIMS Hospital in Dhantoli, when an AC unit in Flat No 401 on the fourth floor caught fire, filling the entire apartment with thick smoke. Members of the Wasnik family acted swiftly, disconnecting the power supply and evacuating through the staircase. However, 82-year-old Tulshiram, who is bedridden, remained trapped inside the flat.Meanwhile, the smoke spread to lower floors of the building. On third floor, 75-year-old Rukmini Bakakshani, a wheelchair-bound resident, was also unable to evacuate on her own. Cops later rescued both the seniors.TNNResidents of the locality praised the officers for their courage, presence of mind and humanitarian approach in handling the emergency.
