Tirupur: Two schoolboys drowned in the Nambiyampalayam Ananthagiri pond near Avinashi in Tirupur district on Saturday. Their bodies were found on Sunday morning.The deceased have been identified as V Dharanish, 11, a Class VII student at Karuvalur government school, and T Hariharan, 8, a Class II student at a government school in Avinashi.The boys, who were neighbours in Amuthan Garden in Ananthagiri, had gone out to play on Saturday. When they did not return home by late evening, their parents filed a missing complaint with the Avinashi police. Police registered a case and a search was launched for the missing boys.Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, locals spotted two bodies floating in the local pond in Ananthagiri, and alerted the police. The bodies were retrieved, and police subsequently confirmed the identities of the children. Police sent the bodies to the Avinashi Government Hospital for postmortem. Police sources said the boys likely went to the pond for a bath or swim and drowned accidentally after being unable to cope with the water’s depth. However, further investigation is on to establish the circumstances of the deaths.
