Kanpur: Two robbery suspects were shot dead in an encounter by Etawah police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Nagla Kanhai village in Firozabad district on Friday afternoon.The deceased, Ankit (26) and Sumit (25), both residents of Etawah, were accused of robbing a doctor of a gold chain on July 3 in Friends Colony. Police had nabbed one accused a few hours after the incident, while two others were on the run.According to DIG, Kanpur range, Yamuna Prasad, a tip-off was received that the suspects were travelling from Ghaziabad to Jharkhand by train. The police surrounded the train at Shikohabad railway station, but the suspects took a child hostage at the station and fled towards a nearby village.The accused later released the child, snatched a motorcycle and opened fire on the police, leaving one of the cops seriously injured. He said the police continued the chase and eventually gunned down the two accused in Nagla Kanhai village. The injured cop was referred to a medical facility in Agra for treatment.On receiving information about the encounter, SSP, Etawah, Brijesh Kumar Srivastava and SSP, Firozabad, Aditya Langhe reached the spot along with police personnel and inspected the area.
