Bettiah: District Magistrate (DM), West Champaran, Taranjot Singh, on Friday suspended two revenue employees on charges of disrupting govt work and instigating a strike among staff.The suspended officials were Lalan Kumar Bharti, posted in Majhaulia circle, and Rahul Ranjan, posted in Gaunaha circle. According to the district administration, both allegedly encouraged revenue staff across the district to go on mass leave from Feb 11.Officials said the strike brought several key public services to a standstill, including land record corrections (jamabandi), Aadhaar seeding, verification of govt land, and services under the Right to Public Services (RTPS) Act. The disruption also adversely affected preparations for Census 2027, a time-bound national exercise.The administration stated that despite clear directives from the chief secretary, the two employees failed to cooperate in weekly review meetings and violated provisions of the Bihar Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1976 by disobeying instructions from senior officials.Action has been taken under the Bihar Government Servants (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 2005. During the suspension period, Bharti will be attached to the Land Reforms Deputy Collector’s office in Narkatiaganj, while Ranjan will be attached to the same office in Bagaha.“We have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards any attempt to disrupt essential public services. Govt work, especially those directly affecting citizens and national programmes like the Census, cannot be compromised under any circumstances,” said DM.
