Rajkot: Two people were trapped under debris and had to be hospitalised after a two-storey house collapsed during repair work on Vadva Panwadi Road in Bhavnagar around 1 pm on Monday.The injured have been identified as 85-year-old Rajendra and Rajesh Chauhan. Preliminary investigations revealed that the ground-plus-one structure, owned by Jayendra Nandlal, was in a severely dilapidated condition when it collapsed.Following an emergency call received through the 112 helpline, the Bhavnagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) fire department dispatched a rescue team to the site. “Information about the building collapse was received by the fire department’s control room at around 1 pm, following which a team was immediately sent to the spot,” said Bhavnagar chief fire officer Pradyumansinh Jadeja.Local residents sprang into action and rescued one of the trapped individuals before the fire brigade personnel could reach the spot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fire brigade personnel later rescued the second victim from beneath the rubble and shifted him to hospital.The incident attracted a large crowd of onlookers, while emergency personnel brought the rescue operation to a close.
