Patna: Two men from Rajasthan were allegedly duped of Rs5 lakh in the name of marriage in Gopalganj district. The women they married allegedly fled with their accomplices soon after the ceremony, and the victims were assaulted. Police have arrested one suspect and launched an investigation.According to police, the victims — Ankit Kumar from Jaipur and Prince from Sawai Madhopur — were lured with false promises of marriage by two women who posed as prospective brides. The men were introduced to them through a middleman who claimed to arrange marriages in Bihar.
The victims allegedly paid Rs2 lakh each, apart from other expenses, taking the total amount spent to around Rs5 lakh. The marriage ceremony was held on Feb 23 night at a marriage hall in Gopalganj after the families arrived by bus.Police said after the wedding, both grooms left with their respective brides in an autorickshaw for the bus stand to return to Rajasthan. However, near Banjari Mor, four bike-borne youths allegedly intercepted the auto, assaulted the men, snatched their belongings and fled with the brides.Following the incident on Feb 24, the victims caught hold of one of the brokers and handed him over to the police. A complaint was subsequently lodged at the police station.Town SHO Pravin Prabhakar said, “A written complaint of forgery has been received. Further investigation is ongoing and the broker is being interrogated.”
