Gandhinagar: The Gujarat govt said on Monday that the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana schemes, aimed at encouraging students to complete secondary and higher secondary education, has boosted attendance.An official statement said that through the Namo Lakshmi scheme, the number of girl students maintaining 80% classroom attendance over the past year rose from 1,71,988 to 2,96,495, marking a 73% increase. Under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana scheme, the number of students with 80% to 100% attendance in science classes increased from 19,324 to 43,533 in the past year, a rise of 125%. So far, assistance worth a total of Rs 1,664.06 crore has been disbursed under the Namo Lakshmi scheme, while Rs 290 crore has been provided under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Scheme.According to data provided by the vidya samiksha kendra (VSK), which monitors online student attendance, the number of girls in Classes IX to XII with at least 80% attendance increased from 1,71,988 in 2024-25 to 2,96,495 in 2025-26, reflecting a 73% rise in just one year.According to the VSK data, the number of students attending science classes with 80% to 100% attendance rose from 19,324 in 2024-25 to 43,533 in 2025-26, indicating an increase of nearly 125% in one year. Under the Namo Lakshmi scheme, eligible girl students receive an assistance of Rs 50,000 for completing their secondary and higher secondary education. A sum of Rs 10,000 is provided each year for completing Classes 9 and 10, and Rs 15,000 is provided each year for completing Classes 11 and 12.Under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana scheme aimed at encouraging students to pursue science after Class X, a sum of Rs 10,000 is given to eligible students in Class XI and Rs 15,000 in Class XII.
