Ahmedabad: Incessant rain claimed two lives in separate electrocution incidents over the weekend, while the downpour triggered a series of emergencies across the city, with Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) receiving 14 calls related to fires, rescues and other incidents on Monday.In the first fatal incident, 28-year-old Maulesh Parmar, a resident of Madhavpura, suffered electric shock when he was climbing an iron staircase outside his house at Halim Ni Khadki during rain to reach an upper room around 8.30pm on Saturday. He was rushed to Civil Hospital, where he died during treatment. Madhavpura police registered an accidental death case.In another incident, 32-year-old Ranjit Patel of Shahwadi in Narol suffered an electric shock while repairing a machine in the washing department of a company on Piplaj-Pirana Road around 7.15pm. Police said that due to rain electric current had leaked into the line connecting the machine. He was taken to Ratan Hospital in Isanpur, where doctors declared him dead. Narol police also registered an accidental death case.The rain-related emergencies continued on Monday, with AFES receiving six fire-related calls and eight rescue calls, an officer said.Among the fire calls were incidents involving distribution panels at Shakti Society in Danilimda and Naroda GIDC, an electrical short circuit near the old Gujarat High Court crossroads, a fire in a tower near Tejendra-7 Home Towers in Chandkheda and a meter fire at a bank in Navrangpura.Rescue teams also responded to a dog trapped in a pit near Amraiwadi police station, a collapsed building gallery at Anupam Flats in Satellite and a school bus stranded in water on Mohammadpura Road.Five calls were also received after trees fell on roads or vehicles. Trees fell on a car near Shahpur Municipal Courts and another near Alliance Church in Maninagar. Similar incidents were reported near the 112 office in Nava Naroda, Amikunj crossroads in Naranpura and the Gujarat Housing Board post office in Meghaninagar.
