COIMBATORE: Two men from Kerala died and three others suffered injuries in a head-on collision between a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a car near the Walayar old check post on the Salem–Kochi National Highway on Sunday evening.The deceased have been identified as G Vinish, 35, and C Ajith, 25, of Palakkad district in Kerala. They were wedding photographers.Police said the SUV driven by S Vijay, 51, of Ernakulam was heading towards Salem. The driver lost control of the SUV near the old check post due to over-speeding. The vehicle hit the median, crossed onto the opposite lane and collided with the car.The car was completely mangled in the impact. Vinish died on the way to the hospital, while Ajith died during treatment in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.Two other passengers in the car, M Abi Mohan, 20, and A Sunil, 52, of Palakkad, survived the crash. Abi Mohan suffered a head injury and a fracture on his right arm while Sunil sustained abrasions and swelling on the head. Both were in stable condition and were being treated at Palakkad Government Hospital.The SUV driver suffered head injuries and was admitted to a private hospital in Sundarapuram. The K G Chavadi police in Coimbatore district registered a case.
