Mangaluru: Kankanady Town police arrested two men and seized 16.7g of MDMA, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 lakh, near the Nethravati River at Kadekar on Saturday.According to the complaint filed by Kankanady Town police sub-inspector Vinayak Bavikatti, he and his team were on patrol in a departmental vehicle around 4.50pm when they spotted a silver car beneath a bridge near the river.Police said the occupants, identified as Abdul Hakeem and Riyaz AK, allegedly tried to flee on seeing the patrol vehicle but were arrested. Officers allegedly recovered 8.6g of MDMA, 13 zip-lock bags, a wallet and a mobile phone from Hakeem. They seized 8g of MDMA, seven zip-lock bags, a wallet and a mobile phone from Riyaz.The car, along with its key, was also seized. The total value of the seized drugs, vehicle and other articles was estimated at Rs 7 lakh. Police alleged that the accused had procured the MDMA from a person named Noushad of Manjeshwar and intended to sell it for illegal profit. A case has been registered at Kankanady Town police station under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
