T’puram: Dansaf team on Sunday arrested two men for allegedly transporting 50g of MDMA on a scooter near Vizhinjam on the Kovalam-Karode bypass.The arrested were identified as Mujeeb Rahman, 32, and Sahad, 27.According to the police, Mujeeb had travelled by train from Bengaluru to Nagercoil with the synthetic drug and then taken a bus to Kaliyikkavila. Sahad allegedly arrived on a friend’s scooter to pick him up from Kaliyikkavila.The Dansaf team intercepted the duo on the bypass. The police said the two abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee after spotting the team. With the help of locals, the team apprehended them.The accused were handed over to Vizhinjam Police. The police said the seized MDMA was estimated to be worth more than Rs 2 lakh. Two mobile phones and around Rs 2,000 in cash were also recovered from the accused.Investigators suspect that Mujeeb may have been acting as a carrier for a drug network. The police said further questioning was required to ascertain for whom he had procured the MDMA and the intended recipients of the consignment.The latest seizure marks the second drug bust on the bypass within a week. On Sept, the Dansaf team had arrested four people near Kovalam for allegedly transporting 3.6kg of ganja in an autorickshaw.
