Buxar: Rajpur police arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized 49.821kg of cannabis during a vehicle-checking drive near Basahi Bridge on the Buxar-Kochas road on Sunday night. Two motorcycles used to transport the contraband were also seized.Rajpur SHO Niwas Kumar said police acted on a tip-off that two men were carrying a large quantity of cannabis towards Rohtas district on motorcycles. A checking drive was launched near Basahi Bridge after the information was verified. On spotting the police, the suspects tried to flee but were chased and arrested.The accused were identified as Chandrashekhar Kumar, son of Ashok Ram of Rampur village under Rajpur police station, and Krishna Thakur alias Raju, son of Lalan Thakur of Gangouli village under Simri police station. Police recovered 49.821kg of cannabis from their possession and seized the motorcycles.An FIR has been lodged under the NDPS Act. The SHO said the duo is being questioned to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify its intended recipient in Rohtas. Raids are underway to trace other members of the smuggling network.
