Ludhiana: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Zonal Unit, Ludhiana has arrested two persons after it recovered 4.595 kilograms heroin from them while they were travelling in a car. DRI Officials said that acting on specific intelligence regarding transportation of narcotic drugs from the border districts to Ludhiana in a particular vehicle, officers of the DRI, Ludhiana Zonal Unit mounted surveillance on the Jalandhar–Ludhiana highway on the outskirts of Ludhiana to track the suspected vehicle. They added that at about 4 pm on 14 March, the suspected vehicle was sighted and intercepted by the officers.“Upon rummaging of the vehicle, four transparent packets wrapped in yellow and black tape were recovered. The packets were concealed inside a yellow-coloured polyethylene bag with black markings, placed on the floor of the front passenger seat” DRI Ludhiana said. “The recovered substance was tested using a field testing kit and returned positive for Heroin. The total weight of the four packets was found to be 4.595 kg, with an estimated illicit market value of approximately Rs 9.2 crore.”DRI officials said that the contraband heroin, along with the vehicle used for trafficking, has been seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They added that two persons travelling in the said vehicle and carrying the contraband were subsequently arrested on 15 March under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
