Chennai: Two persons were arrested in Vanagaram on Saturday for flying kites with manja threads. According to procedural orders of the Chennai police commissioner, sale and use of manja thread for flying kites is banned within the limits of Greater Chennai Police as they can cause accidents resulting in loss of lives. Upon receiving information, a police team conducted surveillance near the Kanniyamman temple, Odam Nagar and Vanagaram on Saturday evening and apprehended the duo, Lokesh, 23, and Kamesh, 21. A kite, spool with manja thread, and a mobile phone were seized from them. A case was registered at the T-5 Vanagaram Police Station. It was revealed during probe that the duo had purchased the manja thread online. The accused were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
