Mysuru: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has apprehended two people in a theft case and recovered railway materials estimated around Rs 99,000 during an early morning operation on Tuesday.Acting on a piece of information and under the guidance of the senior divisional security commissioner and assistant security commissioner, Mysuru, RPF questioned two people, Shriramu and Vijay, who were moving suspiciously on a two-wheeler near the railway station in Hassan at 5.20am. A hammer and a metal piece were found in the vehicle, it noted. The RPF said they came to the railway area with the intention to commit theft but could not proceed due to police movement. During questioning, the duo confessed that about 10-15 days earlier, they stole railway relays from a storeroom by breaking open the lock and sold them to a scrap shop in Hassan, the RPF said. The RPF team then visited the scrap shop near SBI branch, Gowri Koppalu, from where 22 broken relays with copper coils and 5.7kg of copper wire extracted from the remaining relays were recovered. The total value of the recovered railway property is around Rs 99,000. The materials were found in dismantled condition and seized along with the two-wheeler and tools used in the offence.
