Mysuru: Mysuru district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa Wednesday urged women to prioritise science education, saying it was vital for building a strong nation, fostering innovation and achieving gender equality. He was speaking after inaugurating the valedictory of cultural events organised by Maharani’s Commerce and Management College for Women.Recalling the role of the Maharajas of Mysuru, the minister said they laid the foundation for modern Karnataka by promoting holistic development, including education for women and vulnerable sections.Referring to the Constitution, he said the Preamble envisioned an egalitarian society with equal rights and opportunities for all citizens. He noted that BR Ambedkar worked not only for the welfare of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes but also for the empowerment of women.Mahadevappa also praised women students for excelling in education and securing top ranks. Presiding over the event, Chamaraja MLA KK Harishgowda highlighted the contribution of Mysuru Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar in promoting women’s education by opening exclusive women’s colleges in the erstwhile Mysuru state. He said the Congress now provides free education to women and hostel facilities for over 2,900 rural students.
