Bagnan: Two people were arrested on Saturday after a group of miscreants burnt down a local BJP worker’s cyber cafe in the Nuntia Crossing area under the Bagnan police station. Following the arson, locals, including Howrah BJP secretary and advocate Omprakash Singh, staged a protest demanding the arrest of the culprits. A Trinamool party office was also vandalised. Police have started an investigation following a complaint by shop owner Baidyanath Pramanik.Police said the miscreants were wearing helmets to conceal their faces during the crime. Pramanik’s family told reporters that they suspect antisocial elements backed by the Trinamool committed the crime. His family members claimed that three days ago, some unidentified men on motorcycles threatened Pramanik against running the cafe.Pramanik fell ill after the incident and was admitted to a nursing home, family members said. CCTV footage documenting the crime has been handed over to the police.
