Vadodara: Two men were arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths in Dahod on Monday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a beneficiary of the PM Awas Yojana.According to police, the accused are Jayesh Patel, an engineer with the affordable housing mission of Jhalod municipality and Manu Vasaiya, a businessman.
The complainant had been allotted a house under the PM Awas Yojana in Jhalod. After the first instalment of Rs70,000 was credited to his bank account, Patel allegedly demanded Rs5,000 from him as a bribe.The ACB said Patel subsequently demanded Rs10,000 on two occasions after further instalments were credited to the complainant’s account.The complainant then approached the ACB and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, ACB officials laid a trap after Patel allegedly instructed him to hand over the bribe to Vasaiya at a paan stall near Muvada Crossroads.During the operation, ACB officials caught Vasaiya while accepting Rs10,000 from the complainant on Patel’s behalf, police said, adding that further investigations are underway.
