Amravati: Two persons allegedly sexually assaulted a 35-year-old woman under the pretext of offering assistance to restore her broken marriage alliance. Nandgaon Peth police registered a case and arrested the duo, Riyazoddin (45) and Wasim (32).A year ago, the man with whom the woman was engaged blocked her mobile number. A few days ago, she came in contact with Riyazoddin. Police said Riyazoddin assured the woman that if she performs a special puja from his acquaintance Wasim, her broken marriage alliance would be restored. Police said Riyazoddin sent Wasim to the woman’s residence. Under the guise of performing a ritual, Wasim extorted Rs 30,000 from her. In the meantime, Riyazoddin began frequenting the woman’s home and sexually assaulted her, said police. Acting on the woman’s complaint, cops registered a rape case against the accused and under provisions of Anti-Superstition Act.
