Gurgaon: Two men accused of opening fire at a liquor vend and leaving extortion slips at the office of a property dealer in Faridabad on Saturday were arrested after a shootout with police two days ago. One of the accused sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire, an officer said, adding that he is now stable after treatment. Police said Anil alias Khan Gujar (25), is a resident of Machhagar village while Manish (18), is from Chandawli village. The latter is a Class 12 student of a govt school. According to police, the duo had already been identified as the suspects behind the two firing incidents on March 14. While firing at the liquor vend near Sector 68 Chandawli, they had demanded a 10% share of the profits of the business and at the property dealer’s office in Machhagar village, they had demanded Rs 50 lakh as a “fee”. A threatening note was also left at the spot to create fear.ACP crime) Varun Dahiya said the incidents took place between 11pm and 11.30pm and were captured on CCTV cameras, which helped in identifying the accused. Following the incidents, three teams consisting of officers from Crime Branch Uncha Gaon, Sector 65 and Sector 85 were formed to track down the suspects.”On Wednesday night, the Crime Branch Uncha Gaon team received a tip-off about the movement of the accused towards Machhagar. A blockade was set up near an under-construction Indian Oil building to arrest them,” the officer said.When police tried to intercept them, Manish, who was riding the motorcycle, was overpowered at the spot while Anil tried to escape and opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated and Anil was shot in the leg during the firing. Both accused were later taken to a hospital.A country-made pistol, two live cartridges, three empty shells and the motorcycle used in the crime were recovered from the spot. Another case has been registered at Sadar Ballabhgarh police station in connection with the shootout.Police said Anil has 12 previous cases registered against him, including robbery, dacoity, attempt to murder and violations of the Arms Act. He was arrested in an attempt to murder case in July 2025 and was released from jail around two months ago. “He wanted to establish his reign of terror and build a gang to carry out his bidding. As soon as he came under the police’s radar for carrying out such activities, the police took action and the Crime Branch team tightened the noose around him,” the ACP added.Dahiya said police will continue strict action against individuals involved in extortion and other crimes, warning that such offenders will face firm legal consequences.
