Jaipur: Rajasthan’s State Cyber Crime police arrested two men Friday for allegedly helping a cybercrime gang siphon Rs 76 lakh from an elderly couple in a digital arrest scam. The callers claimed the couple’s Aadhaar details had been misused for terrorist activities and money laundering. The fraud began on Aug 5 when the victim’s wife received a WhatsApp call. The accused allegedly used different numbers while posing as police and ATS officers and later sent a purported NIA notice. They allegedly kept the couple under constant surveillance through voice and video calls and sought details of their fixed deposits and other financial documents.Under pressure, the couple allegedly liquidated their savings and transferred Rs 76 lakh to multiple bank accounts. The fraud came to light while the transfers were being made, after which the victim approached the police.Investigators traced the money trail by analysing bank records, WhatsApp numbers, CDRs, CAF IDs and IPDRs. Police found that funds received in one account were quickly transferred to other accounts through RTGS and other banking channels. The probe led police teams to Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, where they arrested Akhand and Satpal.Police said Satpal, who runs a garment manufacturing and tailoring business in Delhi, allegedly provided his company’s and manager’s bank account details. The accounts received Rs 10 lakh and Rs 7 lakh of the defrauded money, police said.Satpal allegedly withdrew and transferred the money to others in return for a commission. Akhand, who has worked with Satpal since 2013, allegedly provided his bank account, which received Rs 7 lakh before the money was transferred to another account.
