Ahmedabad: Two elderly residents lost their lives in separate road accidents in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, with police registering cases against the drivers involved. One victim was allegedly run over by a speeding SUV that fled the scene, while the other died after a pickup vehicle rammed into the scooter on which the woman was travelling with her husband.In the first accident, 68-year-old Yunus Vohra was fatally knocked down near his residence at Bibi Talav Crossroads shortly after midnight. According to the FIR lodged by his daughter, Vohra was walking along the road when an SUV coming from the Vatva Gam side allegedly hit him from the side.Witnesses told the family that the impact threw Vohra onto the road and the vehicle’s front wheel ran over his chest and abdomen before the driver sped away without stopping. Vohra suffered severe injuries and was rushed to LG Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. Police registered a hit-and-run case against the unidentified driver and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the vehicle.In the second case, 57-year-old Violet Christian died after a Bolero pickup truck collided with the scooter on which she was riding pillion with her husband near the CIPET gate on the Jasodanagar-Hathijan Road.According to the complaint filed by her husband, the couple was returning home after visiting a bank in Vatva GIDC when the pickup allegedly hit their scooter near a turn. Both were thrown onto the road and dragged along with the vehicle. While Christian’s husband sustained injuries on his face, shoulder and limbs, Violet suffered critical head and abdominal injuries.The couple was shifted to Civil Hospital in a 108 ambulance, where doctors declared Violet dead on arrival. The driver of the pickup truck allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police registered a case and launched an investigation.
