Patna: An old land dispute between two brothers escalated into a violent clash on Tuesday morning in Saheb Begpur (ward no. 22) under Mokama police station area of Patna district, leaving two persons dead and four others injured. Both brothers—Ajay Yadav and Vijay Yadav—are natives of Muliya Tola.The incident took place around 8.30am, while Ajay, along with his wife Manju Devi, sons and a nephew, was returning home after working in the farm field. As they passed by the residence of Vijay, a scuffle broke out between both the families. Bricks, stones, sticks and sharp-edged weapons, including a spade, were used to attack Ajay’ family. Police immediately reached the spot and admitted the injured to a Mokama hospital.Rajiv Kumar (32), son of Ajay, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital, while Manju (60) died in the PMCH due to excessive bleeding. Manju and their son Krishna Kumar were referred to the PMCH as their condition was serious. Ajay’s nephew sustained minor injuries.Ajay filed an FIR in Mokama police station in this regard. Kunal Kumar, SHO of Mokama police station, said Rajiv sustained severe head injuries and he died during treatment in Mokama. “Both the families were at loggerheads over distribution of property. On Tuesday, a dispute broke out when Ajay, along with his family brother, was levelling his farm field and water flowed into the adjacent plot of his brother Vijay, sparking an altercation,” he said.“While Ajay’s family was passing by the accused’s house, Vijay, along with his two sons, attacked them with stones, sticks and sharp weapons. Based on the FIR filed by Ajay, Vijay and his sons Vikram Kumar and Vivek Kumar were arrested,” the SHO told TOI.He said the dispute was over 4 kattha of land. Although the property was divided between the two brothers, disputes frequently arose over the land near their house.SP (Rural) Kundan Kumar said, “The dispute was old, but no formal complaint was registered at the police station prior to the incident.”
