Kanpur: Two children drowned while bathing in a rainwater-filled pit near Katra Rahmat Khan village in Farrukhabad’s Kaimganj Kotwali area around 1.30 pm on Sunday.Suraj (12) and Monu (10) went to the pit with their friends Chandu and Nanhe. All four entered the water, but Suraj and Monu moved into deeper section and began drowning.Chandu and Nanhe returned to the village and alerted their families. Relatives and villagers reached the spot and began searching for the children. A passer-by entered the water and pulled out Suraj, who was taken to the Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead.Local divers were called from Shamshabad to search for Monu. His body was recovered from deep water after an operation lasting about two hours. The pit was stated to be about 10 to 12 feet deep.
