Prayagraj: Commuters remained stranded in a massive traffic jam for hours on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway on Wednesday after two UPSRTC buses broke down on the Phaphamau route.Traffic was restored after personnel from the traffic police and local police stations rushed to the spot and cleared the affected stretch.A senior traffic police officer told TOI, “Two roadways buses broke down within a short span between Teliyarganj and Shantipuram, triggering a massive traffic snarl on one of the city’s busiest routes.”Commuters have been facing frequent traffic congestion on the Phaphamau route over the past week due to road repair work and vehicle breakdowns.Additional police pickets had been deployed along the stretch, with traffic personnel and home guards posted on both sides of the Phaphamau Ganga bridge.According to traffic police officials, lane indiscipline by commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, further aggravated the situation, resulting in long queues of vehicles between Teliyarganj and Shantipuram.“We were stuck in the jam for nearly two hours, and there is no alternative route to bypass this stretch,” said Amit, one of the affected commuters.
