GANDERBAL, September 7 : The bodies of a young boy and a girl were recovered from a power canal in the Thune area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday following an extensive search operation, officials said.
The incident occurred after the two were reportedly seen entering or jumping into the canal, prompting an immediate rescue operation.
The deceased boy was identified as Irshad Ahmad Kahi, son of Mohammad Sharif Kahi, a resident of Thune. The identity of the girl has not been disclosed.
Teams from Kangan Police, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local volunteers and rescuers searched the canal and adjoining areas despite challenging conditions.
The bodies were eventually traced and retrieved from the water channel. Police have initiated proceedings to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details are awaited.
