Varanasi: Two advocates returning from court were intercepted, assaulted and robbed by four unidentified assailants in Cantt police station area late Friday evening.Advocate Naushad Ali and his junior colleague Ramashankar were returning home after finishing work at the court when four unknown youths intercepted them near the bridge. The accused abused and attacked them.The advocates alleged that the attackers beat them with belts and a hockey stick and strangled in an attempt to murder. The assailants suspended the two men from the bridge before fleeing with Rs 4,700 cash and a gold chain.The accused threatened the lawyers, warning them of dire consequences if they reported the incident to police.Cantt police are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused. Police are also gathering clues based on vehicle details and descriptions of the attackers.Cantt Inspector Raj Kishore Pandey said raids are being conducted at possible hideouts of the accused.
