Mangaluru: Mangaluru North police have arrested a 34-year-old man who allegedly absconded for nearly nine years without appearing in court in connection with a criminal case.The accused, Ashfaq of Mukkacheri, Ullal, was booked at Mangaluru North police station in 2017 under sections 143, 147, 341, 504, 323, 506 and 307, read with Section 149 of the Indian Penal Code. The case is pending before the Second JMFC Court.After Ashfaq failed to appear before the court and remained untraceable, the court issued an LPC warrant against him. Acting on the warrant, Mangaluru North police traced and arrested him on Tuesday and produced him before the court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.In a separate case, Kavoor police arrested a 44-year-old woman who had allegedly been absconding for nearly five years without appearing before the court in connection with a housemaid theft case.The accused, Latha Maria of Akash Bhavan, was booked at Kavoor police station in 2019 under Section 381 of the Indian Penal Code. The case is pending before the court of the senior judge and chief judicial magistrate.As she had failed to appear before the court for several years, an arrest warrant was issued against her, and the case was placed under the long-pending case category. Acting on the warrant, Kavoor police traced and arrested her at Jyothi Nagar. She was produced before the court Wednesday.
