Constable Suraj (24) who died in a tractor-auto collision in Loni

Ghaziabad: An on-duty constable of Uttar Pradesh Police who was travelling for official work from Loni to Delhi died on Tuesday after a tractor-trolley rammed the auto-rickshaw he was in.The deceased, Suraj Kumar (24), had joined the police force in 2025 and received his first posting at Loni police station a few months ago.Loni SHO Yogendra Singh said Suraj left the police station in the auto around 4pm. He sat in front, beside the auto driver, as other passengers were seated at the back. Near Banthala-Chirodi Marg, a tractor-trolley, coming from Delhi, collided head-on with the auto, the officer said.“All the other passengers, as well as the auto driver, received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment. But because of where he was sitting, the constable’s leg was caught between the tractor and the trolley. His leg was fractured and a vein ruptured, leading to severe blood loss,” Singh said.Passersby informed police about the accident, after which a team reached the spot and took the injured to a hospital. Kumar succumbed to his injuries during treatment at night.The tractor driver, who had fled the spot after the accident, is yet to be traced, but police have seized both the auto-rickshaw and the tractor. The SHO said they are checking CCTV footage to identify the driver. Kumar’s family lodged a complaint on Wednesday evening and an FIR has been registered.On Aug 12, a 40-year-old home guard died and a constable was injured at the Rahul Vihar underpass on NH-9 after a PRV bike on which they were travelling was hit by a Thar.About 24 hours afterwards, a car carrying a police team and a 20-year-old who had gone missing from his house in Aligarh collided with a stationary tanker on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway at Lal Kuan. A sub-inspector and the youth who was rescued died in the accident.On Aug 24, 2025, Sushila Kumar (37), a CISF constable, was killed after his scooter, on which he was travelling, was hit by an unknown vehicle near the CISF camp in the Indirapuram area. He was posted in Parliament House and worked in the CISF’s fifth battalion. He joined the CISF 10 years ago.
