The site will soon be cleared and piling work for the building will begin. The ticket counters used to be in the heritage building years ago till they were moved out to prevent overcrowding. The first building of north block that is taking shape will house concourses for departures and arrivals, ticket counters, retail outlets, hotels, commercial units facing the road and others. The railways aims to make central railway station into a transport hub by building huge terminals. This coupled with development of Thiruvananthapuram north railway station is expected to help run more trains from the state capital when the work is completed.
