Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday strongly hit out at TVK and its chief, C Joseph Vijay, after Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials arrested a TVK functionary in Nagapattinam district with 135kg of methamphetamine worth several crores of rupees. In a post on X, Stalin said TVK, which earned the label of a “Bad Party” within five months of coming to power, had now been “promoted” to a “Breaking Bad Party”. He drew a parallel with the web series Breaking Bad, in which the protagonist turns to selling drugs. Referring to Vijay’s character in the film Leo, he added: “First, take stock of how many such ‘Leo Das’ are in TVK”. Stalin also cautioned against attempting to dismiss serious allegations with “dramatic punch dialogues”.The accused, Boopalan, was TVK’s Nagapattinam district functionary and election in-charge for the Kilvelur constituency. Stalin shared a TV channel clip showing Boopalan with Vijay and questioned the party chief’s anti-drug campaigns. “Did the TVK chief tour the state preaching morals while harbouring a massive drug mafia within his own party?” Stalin said. He urged investigating agencies to uncover the wider network and arrest members of the syndicates allegedly linked to the case.Speaking to reporters, DMK deputy general secretary A Raja questioned how 65 special narcotics task forces allegedly constituted by the TVK govt four months ago had failed to detect such a large trafficking network.Raja said reports indicated that the DRI had arrested Boopalan and seized the contraband, which was allegedly intended to be smuggled to Sri Lanka. He claimed that Tamil Nadu had not previously witnessed the seizure of such a large quantity of drugs and demanded a comprehensive investigation into the alleged network, particularly because the accused was a party functionary.
